Here in the Netherlands a lot of designers use QuarkXPress though InDesign is coming up on the market fast. Who used to work with Quark and switched to InDesign? Is it good? Any comments? Thoughts? Ideas? Tips?

Very easy to transition into InDesign, especially if you are versed in Illustrator and Photoshop. The user interface is virtually identical to Illustrator. In my opinion, InDesign is more intuative than Quark and less buggy. (But that opinion is biased by the fact that I upgraded my system to a Mac G5 when I switched to InDesign.)

I highly recommend InDesign, especially if you work in a group environment and can take advantage of CS's Version Cue.

I have to use Quark for my primary line of work but for any odd jobs that crop up I almost always use InDesign. I find it to be far more powerful, flexible, and compatible than Quark. It's not nearly as buggy and has far more powerful text tools. InDesign all the way . . . now if only I could get my primary printing house to switch.

I've only had one REAL problem with InDesign -- I used the built-in drop shadow feature with a two-color setup: one spot and black. even though I had specified the shadow color to be black, neither I nor the print house could get it to keep from becoming a four-color black when it went to RIP. I talked to an "Adobe Expert" who blamed it on the printer's RIP (even though I was having the same problem just going to PDF seps). She basically said "don't use this feature with spot color jobs."

also, I've found the InDesign group on Yahoo to be extremely helpful when I'm having problems: groups.yahoo.com/group/adobe-indesign/

Our publishing company of which I am an Art Director (15 full colour magzines) just completed a full Quark to InDesign and Mac OSX conversion. I still feel there are some features lacking in InDesign, and I find I have to click my mouse more while learning new hotkey combinations, but overall the conversion was almost flawless, and our colour quality from Photoshop is 100%.

Also love burning distilling PDF's in a fraction of the time compared to Quark.

It would be hard to go back to Quark... too bad they let Adobe let it almost die... too little too late.

I like indesign a lot, though I have had some problems. Some printers still don't like the files (mostly smaller printers though), and my biggest problem. I sometimes have a problem with artifacting when I knock things out. I liked the Quark feature where you could save something as a grayscale bitmap tiff and then select its color in the palette.

I really like InDesignCS2 for many of the features in the program, how it integrates with other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite and how it integrates with Adobe Bridge.

I primarily work with WinXP based systems and color control has often been a hit and miss issue there, even when working between different Adobe applications. The CS2 version bypasses Windows' own attempts at color control and manages it on its own across the entire suite. You can make suite-wide changes in color control directly within Bridge that way everything that jumps between Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat will be consistent.

InDesign...works way better since it's Adobe. Quark took so long in coming up with another version..I felt it disregarded us who needed upgraded working tools. Too bad...I switched to InDesign and will not look back.
